Q: Can a physician belong to the SSPHO but direct community level care to a hospital other than South Shore Hospital?
Our partnership requires that South Shore Hospital be your principal hospital. The SSPHO is a comprehensive health care system that can handle most of the community needs of the patient within the South Shore Hospital system. As always, if a tertiary need is present, an SSPHO primary care physician can refer to a tertiary facility. And of course, emergencies go to the nearest possible hospital.
